What Will you be Wearing?

Last week at the home league we had an invite to a royal garden party. It was lovely most of the ladies dressed up to meet the “Queen”. There was beautiful floral displays, and plants one being a Queen of the Night, which has an amazing fragrance, it flowers at night and is dead by the morning.
We had cakes and chocolates,
stories of people going to Buckingham palace and memorabilia we had a rousing God Save our Gracious Queen at the end, and then I shook hands with everyone as they filed past.
All in all it was a lovely afternoon and most of us were dressed for the occasion, but some weren’t!

This week we looked at what kind of clothes we wear depending on where we are, where we’re going and what we are doing. I certainly wouldn’t go shopping in my wedding dress, or the do the gardening in my evening wear. I’d brought along a suitcase with various clothes in, my gardening jacket, my dog walking coat, pyjama, sparkly skirt for going out for a meal, and last but not least my wedding dress. There are of course different kinds of clothes for certain jobs, such as nurses, and armed forces, firemen, etc.  I found out on the internet about the Queens wardrobe and the different designers.

David speaks of the Lord being clothed in majesty and strength and honour.
Psalm 93:The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty;
The Lord is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength.

Psalm 104:Bless the Lord, O my soul!
O Lord my God, You are very great: You are clothed with honour and majesty, 2 Who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, Who stretch out the heavens like a curtain.

In John 19 the soldiers made a crown of thorns and placed it on the head of Jesus, they also put a purple robe on Him and mocked Him, they bowed before Him, saying “Hail, King of the Jews”, they mocked the Lordship of Jesus, they mocked His divinity and they took the purple robe from Him and placed Him on the cross where He bore our sins. All our filthy garments was placed upon Him. So awful was this sight that God the Father could not look upon His Son as He bore all the sins of mankind. How dreadful this was, such horror for the King of glory and He did it for you and for me, and as many as will receive His forgiveness He clothes them in His righteousness. What an exchange, all my filthy rags of self-righteousness, all my sin for the righteousness of the Lord Jesus.

We are clothed with the righteousness of Christ if we are truly born again, and it will be seen in how we live, what we say, and how we treat each other, Colossians 3: 12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. As the body of Christ we should show love and compassion to those who are yet still lost, when they come into our building we should all welcome them and be prepared to help them. We are to be clothed in the love and humility of Christ.

We live in a fallen world and many times in our daily lives we will hear things and see things that we find offensive but we can keep our garments white by prayer and studying the Bible, God’s word, the more we do so the closer we will be to the Lord. There may be many denominations but there is only one true Church who will one day be His bride, we shall all be clothed in white what a glorious day that will be.

Today at this moment there may be many who are making the decision to turn from their sin and follow the Lord Jesus Christ, they have exchanged their filthy rags for the Lord’s righteousness and are now part of His church, and how the angels in heaven rejoice over one sinner that repents, let us too rejoice with them by singing this song.

Ring the bells of Heaven! There is joy today,
For a soul, returning from the wild!
See, the Father meets him out upon the way,
Welcoming His weary, wandering child.

Glory! Glory! How the angels sing:
Glory! Glory! How the loud harps ring!
’Tis the ransomed army, like a mighty sea,
Pealing forth the anthem of the free.

Ring the bells of Heaven! There is joy today,
For the wanderer now is reconciled;
Yes, a soul is rescued from his sinful way,
And is born anew a ransomed child.
Refrain

Ring the bells of Heaven! Spread the feast today!
Angels, swell the glad triumphant strain!
Tell the joyful tidings, bear it far away!
For a precious soul is born again.
Refrain
